The popular arena racing soccer game Rocket League will be getting a new time-limited progression system, development studio Psyonix has announced.

According to a recent announcement, the new progression system will be called Rocket Pass and will be available in two flavors: free and premium.

The free version will feature rewards that unlock automatically, giving everyone the opportunity to earn them.

A premium version will also be available that will feature additional content to unlock and is expected to retail for $9.99 US in North America and €9.99 in Europe.

With the new Rocket Pass players who level up will earn one Pass Tier. The more Tiers they earn, the more rewards they unlock. Players will also be able to purchase Tiers with real currency to get rewards faster.

The new update will not replace the original XP-based progression system, but that system is expected to change as well. Whether match end rewards will stay in the game is still unknown.

The new Rocket Pass progression system is expected to launch this summer.
