Sony has announced that it will raise the price of its PlayStation Plus subscription service in North America. The price changes will go in effect in September.
In the announcement Sony states that it will raise the price of its PlayStation Plus service by $10. Currently players can purchase a yearly subscription for $50. With the new price changes the subscription service will have its price bumped up to $60.
With PlayStation Plus gamers get access to several online services that give them the ability to play online against their friends. The service also gives away a free game once a month.
Sony says that it will raise the price of the service due to "current market conditions", but did not go into details. The $60 price point of PlayStation Plus makes the service just as expensive as Xbox Live.
Sony has not yet confirmed whether it will also increase the price of the PlayStation Plus service in Europe. A yearly PlayStation Plus subscription in Europe currently costs €49.99 and Xbox Live costs €59.99.
