The Rocket League cross-platform party update has been pushed to 2019, development studio Psyonix confirmed. The update was already delayed in September.
A specific reason for pushing the update to 2019 wasn't given, but it is likely related to getting the permissions to support cross-platform multiplayer on console versions of the game.
Sony's PlayStation 4 is currently the only console not supporting cross-platform multiplayer. However, the company is slowly starting to accept the functionality.
The change in policy means that Psyonix will spend additional time to get the PlayStation 4 version of Rocket League ready for cross-platform multiplayer.
Up until now, the studio focused on getting the underlying RocketID system ready for all other platforms while ruling out the PlayStation 4.
A new release date for the update was not announced.
