Microsoft has announced that it will cease support for Project Spark. The game was a "digital canvas" which players could use to make games, movies and other experiences. Players could download other user-generated content, remix that content or create content of their own. The game was available for free on PC and Xbox One.
On Friday night the game was no longer available for download via the Windows Store and Xbox Marketplace followed by the announcement of the discontinuation of the game. "For existing users of Project Spark, online services will be unavailable after December 8th 2016" the statement reads. "Despite this news, we want to celebrate the accomplishments of our team and community of creators and players. Our team released 46 content packs, thousands of assets and 16 updates since launch."
Players who purchased and redeemed the Project Spark Starter Kit sold in retail outlets will receive a credit to their Microsoft account. Players who have purchased and activated the game between October 5th 2015 and May 13th 2016 will receive a credit that can be used to purchase content in the Windows Store or Xbox Marketplace. Credits will be granted automatically to eligible players.
