German rom hacker Kaze Emanuar has released a new hack for the Nintendo 64 game Super Mario 64 that brings 60 frames per second support to the game. The original game runs at 30 frames per second.
The new hack doesn't just increase the speed of the game by two; it also changes all animations, events and timers to make sure they aren't faster than what you expect them to be.
The rom hack isn't perfect and the game may feature bugs because of the changes, but it is a welcomed attempt to make the game run at modern, perhaps expected, frame rates.
Super Mario 64 released on June 23, 1996, for Nintendo 64. It is also available for the Nintendo Wii via its virtual console and for the Nintendo DS.
