Sega has released a new trailer for the 2D Sonic platform game Sonic Mania. The new trailer confirms the August 15th release date that was briefly shown on the game's Steam Store page earlier this week.
Sonic Mania features the classic 8-bit retro graphics from the first titles in an advanced engine capable of rendering the game in high definition resolutions. While the game mostly contains new worlds to play in, the game also brings back several classic levels to re-explore.
The game was originally scheduled to launch in April, but Sega delayed the game because the development team behind the game needed more time to ensure that it meets the expectations of fans.
New in this Sonic title is the addition of a new movement skill called the "drop dash" that allows players to instantly accelerate upon landing on surfaces. The drop dash can be used to break through barricades and take out enemies.
The August 15th release date was briefly shown on the game's Steam Store page earlier this week along with the new trailer that is now officially available.
Sonic Mania launches on August 15th 2017 for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
