The Elysium project has announced that the vanilla World of Warcarft server Nostalrius will return on December 17th 2016. The server will feature both Player versus Enviroment and Player versus Player content.
The Nostalrius server project was taken over by the Elysium project after the project's original team members faced legal issues.
The vanilla private server project was shut down back in April when Blizzard Entertainment sent a cease-and-desist letter to the team that was maintaining the project.
Since then the development team of the vanilla server project has been in contact with Blizzard to find a way to bring back the legacy World of Warcraft experience as it was prior to the game's first expansion The Burning Crusade that was released back in 2007.
Because of the lack of any recognition from Blizzard, the development team behind Nostalrius has stated in November that they would be handing over the project's source code to a group of like-minded individuals which they "believe to be the most in line with [their] core values".
Now that the transition of source code is complete, the Elysium project has announced that the Nostalrius server will be back online this month.
The source code and documentation of the Nostalrius project will also be released to the public completely free of charge at a later date.
