Id Software to rework DOOM multiplayer experience

Id Software has announced that it will rework the multiplayer component of DOOM following a massive number of negative reviews. The initial multiplayer component was developed by Certain Affinity.

The new update for the multiplayer component is supposed to take into account the feedback that players have been giving. "We are already working on private matches with custom game settings and expect to include that in a free update this summer." said Marty Stratton, executive producer at Id Software. In addition the new update is expected to include bots for all multiplayer gamemodes and a fully fledged server browser.

Back in April the beta launch of the multiplayer component of the game received a massive number of negative reviews on the game's Steam Store page. In the negative reviews fans of the franchise claim the game does no justice to the DOOM franchise, referencing the many Call of Duty-style gameplay elements as their biggest gripe.

Playing DOOM multiplayer heavily revolves around leveling up your character, unlocking customization features and so called "hacks", a reference to the "perks" system in recent Call of Duty games, that give you enhanced capabilities such as wallhacks and power armor.

The multiplayer update is expected to launch this summer, in addition to several free and paid downloadable content packs.
