Super Mario Odyssey has received a 12 and up age rating in Japan. The game received its CERO B rating earlier this week from the Japanese Computer Entertainment Rating Organization.
The CERO rating system is similar to the ESRB and PEGI rating systems and is primarily used to give guardians insight in whether or not a particular game is suitable for their children.
In Germany the USK rating system is legally enforced and prevents several titles from being sold at all.
The CERO B rating for Super Mario Odyssey is interesting because it is the first Super Mario franchise game that received the 12 and up age rating.
Why the game received this age rating is still unknown, but it is likely due to some included content being considered inappropriate for children below the age of 12.
Super Mario Odyssey launches on October 27, 2017, for Nintendo Switch.
