PUBG gets new map Karakin, Sticky Bomb weapon and Motor Glider plane
Thursday, January 16, 2020 - 15:50 GMT

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will be getting a new map: Karakin. The desert map is an arid, rocky environment that provides wide-open terrain and challenging engagements. It’s small, fast, and dangerous.

The new map is a relatively small island of 2 by 2 kilometers set off the coast of Northern Africa. It supports up to 64 players in a single match, bringing a faster and tenser combat experience.

According to patch notes, players should expect long distance rifle engagements in the mountains, tactical urban conflict, and claustrophobic underground combat.

The map also brings a new gameplay hazard Black Zone, which is exclusive to the map. Inside a Black Zone buildings will level into smoking ruins. The hazard is designed to push players out of the safety of a building. It is a random event and can have different outcomes: towns and compounds can be undamaged, totally flattened, and everything in between.

The new hazard is particularly interesting for those who haven't played the game in a while because it creates a dynamic mix of buildings and ruins that evolves in real time throughout the match. This means that players shouldn't always expect buildings to be in a certain place for cover.

In addition to the new map, the update will also introduce Sticky Bombs. These can be sticked on top of breachable objects, such as walls, floors and ceilings. The weapon will provide new ways to approach or trap enemies.

Last but not least, the introduction of the first flyable vehicle: The Motor Glider. This new vehicle will be available on live servers starting January 15, 2020. On Erangel and Miramar, 10 Motor Gliders will spawn across the map each game, across 40 potential locations. It has two seats; one for the pilot and one for the passenger who can use weapons during flight. The vehicle is relatively easy to shoot out of the sky.

The PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds 6.1 update is currently available on the game's test server. It is expected to make its way to live servers later this month.
