The biggest hurdles still to overcome in virtual reality is allowing users to freely move their character within the virtual world without having to use control pads or point and shoot teleport gameplay mechanics to get around.

Tracking objects within virtual reality is also still an important issue but recent developments such as the HTC Vive Tracker and Leap Motion show that it is only a matter of time until any object can be tracked.

In the second year virtual reality applications are expected to extend beyond the video game industry as the technology is now stable enough to be used in other sectors, such as medical and engineering.

The HTC Vive virtual reality headset was released on April 5th 2016 and currently retails for $899.00 in North America and €899.00 in Europe.
