ArenaNet has released the Wintersday update for Guild Wars 2. Amongst other things, the update features the return of Christmas decorations in the western district of Divinity's Reach.
Wintersday is an annual event in the world of Guild Wars 2 in which players are able to participate in several Holiday-themed minigames that can be accessed through portals in one of the game's major cities Divinity's Reach.
Like every year, the update only features content that was already introduced to the game several years ago. The update also reintroduces several winter-themed weapon skins that are available for purchase via the game's gemstore.
A controversial move this year was the decision to not update the game's Toypocalypse minigame. Last year players complained about the inability to play the minigame with their friends, forcing them to play the minigame with complete strangers.
This year ArenaNet has once again confirmed that it will not be changing the minigame due to time constraints. The minigame was also not changed last year due to similar reasons.
Aside from Wintersday content the update also introduces changes to the game's Player versus Player and World versus World game modes.
With the new Player versus Player League system the game's developer hopes to achieve a more competitive environment.
In the new upcoming Player versus Player Season, pips will no longer be used for matchmaking purposes. Removing the pip restriction on matchmaking means more players to match with and subsequently shorter queue times.
The game's World versus World game mode sees changes to how skirmish points are awarded. The game mode also sees the introduction of new on-screen score floaters that indicate how much warscore a player has earned for certain actions.
The Guild Wars 2 Wintersday content will be available starting December 13th 2016 and lasts until January 10th 2017.
