Indie WWII shooter game Battalion 1944 has sold more than 250,000 copies since it became available on Steam Early Access in 2018. The game officially released last month.

Battalion 1944 is said to bring back the classic World War II multiplayer shooter experience by delivering gameplay that resembles that of classic Call of Duty and Medal of Honor games.

The game has seen continued popularity despite the poor reception during its Early Access development phase. The game has accumulated 1 million watch hours on broadcasting platform Twitch in the first seven days following launch, most of which was the result of several popular streamers broadcasting the game.

To celebrate the milestone the development studio is giving away five extra Aces High War Chests to those who play before June 10, 2019. The chests give players an extra chance to earn weapon skins.

The game's development was funded with a Kickstarter campaign in 2016 where roughly 10,000 backers pledged £317,281. It was made available on Steam Early Access on February 1, 2018, and officially released on May 23, 2019.
