Nintendo video game designers Yoshiaki Koizumi and Kenta Motokura have confirmed that the upcoming 3D Mario adventure game Super Mario Odyssey will feature co-op multiplayer functionality.
In Super Mario Odyssey Mario has jumped out of the mushroom kingdom into the real world. The game world will feature several locations based on real life, including New York City.
The multiplayer co-op functionality allows two players to play the game together on one Nintendo Switch console. Whether this means that the second player will only be able to help out the first player as seen in Super Mario Galaxy or if the second player will be able to control a separate character is still unknown.
The game developers also hinted towards the addition of online functionality. It is likely that they are referring to online social functionality that allows players to share text and media. Whether online multiplayer will be included in the game remains to be seen.
