Half-Life 2 virtual reality modification gets greenlit on Steam, releasing later this year

The Half-Life 2 virtual reality modification that was submitted to Steam Greenlight last week has been successfully greenlit. The modification will be available on Steam later this year.

The modification was submitted to Steam Greenlight last Thursday and managed to get the required votes in just five days. The modification aims to bring the virtual reality experience to the classic shooter game Half-Life 2 that was first released in 2004.
The modification features support for most modern virtual reality headsets, including the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift, motion controller support and even includes updated effects, textures, models and maps to make the game look better in the high rendering resolutions required for virtual reality.

The modification also features a new 3D virtual reality user interface and head-up display, realistic weapon interactions and multiple locomotion methods.

In a response to community feedback the development team behind the modification states that having the project on Steam will make it easier for them to develop it, and it will also make it easier for players to install and update the modification when new builds are available.

Once available, gamers will still be required to own a copy of Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1 or Half-Life 2: Episode 2 on Steam.

This comment has been removed. @: Uh too expensive? The Vive retails for €900. Not a bad price for VR IMO.

This comment has been removed. @Goldrival: You can buy 2 smartphones that basically have the same sensors and screen resolution for that price.
