Gamers who frequently play Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch will not have to purchase a monthly online service membership once the service launches this Wednesday.
According to Nintendo's updated FAQ page, some games will not require the online service membership. The page currently only lists Fortnite as an example, likely because the game is available free of charge.
The service will be required for many first- and third-party Nintendo Switch games, including Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
For these titles, Nintendo Switch gamers will be required to purchase a monthly subscription fee to participate in co-op and competitive online features, starting September 18, 2018.
The current price tag for the Nintendo Switch Online service sits at $3.99 US per month, with additional discounts available for those who purchase the 3-month or 12-month plan.
