Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming sci-fi role-playing game The Outer Worlds will not be releasing on Steam this coming August. The development studio has decided to release on Epic Games Store instead.
As players explore a space colony, the character they decide to become will determine how the game's story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.
An August release date was briefly visible on its Steam Store page earlier this year, but now displays a 2020 release window. On Twitter the studio confirmed it negotiated an exclusivity deal with Epic Games to release it as Epic Games Store exclusive title.
The game will remain an Epic Games Store exclusive game for a full year and will be available on Steam after that term has passed.
The game is currently in development at Obsidian Entertainment. The studio also worked on Fallout: New Vegas.
