Bethesda has released a new patch for DOOM that brings support for Vulkan, the low-overhead, cross-platform 3D graphics API.
With Vulkan players can expect to achieve higher framerates on the exact same hardware configuration. Vulkan allows very low-level access to the available hardware and moves most of the driver overhead into the game developers’ hands, allowing them to make the game run more efficiently.
"When we were looking to adopt Vulkan for DOOM, the main question we asked ourselves was: “What’s the gamer benefit?” Ultimately the biggest benefit will be high framerates." the statement reads.
The patch that brings Vulkan support is now available via Steam. Players can enable Vulkan via the game's advanced graphics settings.
