The iconic game character Super Mario has made an appearance in the Rio 2016 Olympics closing ceremony. The end of the ceremony was dedicated to Japan, the country that will host the 2020 Summer Olympics.
For the closing ceremony a special CGI, or Computer-generated Imagery, video was created in which several popular gaming characters can be spotted, including Bandai Namco's Pac-man and Nintendo's Super Mario.

In the video Japan's prime minister Shinzo Abe transforms in Super Mario and uses a warp pipe to get to Rio. The video ends with Abe standing on a real warp pipe in the center of Rio's Maracana Stadium where the closing ceremony was being held.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics are expected to feature many more gaming and anime references which makes the game's opening and closing ceremonies worthwhile to watch for gamers and non-gamers alike.
