Rare has released a new developer diary video for Sea of Thieves. In the video developers of the game discuss creating the realistic water physics that are included in the game.
Because Sea of Thieves is a multiplayer game the water is synchronized across all players. This is possible because the developers of the game have designed the water generation system to be deterministic, allowing its state to be set within milliseconds.
For the water system the developers have taken inspiration from other games and Hollywood movies. The water reflects sunlight realistically, creating for awe-inspiring sunsets.
Sea of Thieves is expected to launch in 2017 for PC and Xbox One.
