Bethesda Softworks has announced that it will release an update for the PlayStation 4 versions of Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 that introduces mod support.

The new announcement comes a month after the game developer had announced that it had ceased its efforts trying to get mod support to work on the PlayStation 4.

The mod support that will be available on the PlayStation 4 will be limited in functionality due to guidelines that are enforced by Sony.

On the PlayStation 4 players will not be unable to use external assets within PlayStation 4 mods. This means that mods that are available for the PlayStation 4 version of the game will only be able to use assets that are already included in the game.

Just like the PC and Xbox One version of the game players will be able to download PlayStation 4 compatible mods via the Creation Kit user interface.

Mod support for Skyrim Special Edition will be available via a title update that launches on October 28th. That update will introduce both mod support as well as support for PlayStation 4 Pro by featuring 4K resolution gameplay and enhanced lighting.

Fallout 4 players will have to wait a bit longer to be able to make use of Bethesda's mod support as a release date for the update has not yet been given.
