In Mafia 3 the Italian Mafia family Marcanos is the leading Mafia crime family in New Bordeaux. The family is lead by Sal Marcano and at the start of the game they run the entire city. They either control or get a piece of the action from every criminal operation and faction in New Bordeaux.

The game's city is based on New Orleans, which is known for its round-the-clock nightlife, vibrant live-music scene, and spicy, singular cuisine reflecting its history as a melting pot of French, African and American cultures.The city features 10 unique districts, each with their own story and unique set of characters.
