Compulsion Games has announced that the indie survival horror game We Happy Few is now available on Steam Early Access, GOG Games in Development and Xbox One Preview.
The game revolves around a person in a dystopian retrofuturistic-fashioned world where everyone is controlled by a personality-altering pill called 'Joy". The protagonist, Arthur Hastings, works as a 'redactor', a government censor similar to the Ministry of Truth, erasing unhappy stories from newspapers and records.
The primary objective of the game is to escape the town of Wellington Wells. The game does save progress on checkpoints, but if the player dies or is captured, the player must start a new game. The layout of the town is not fixed but procedurally generated every time a new game is started. The town is divided into districts, each of which has its own look and customs.
The game is available now via Steam Early Access, GOG Games in Development and the Humble Bundle Store for a retail price of €27.99. Xbox One players can access the game through the Xbox One Preview program for a price of €29,99.
By purchasing the early access copy players will gain access to the full retail game when it is released in roughly 6 to 12 months from now.
