Sony has launched a crackdown on the spreading of the gameplay video for the recently announced Uncharted game Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. The game was announced yesterday.

Gamers and fans of the franchise who uploaded the video on YouTube or showed it to their audience on Twitch received DMCA take-down claims from Sony Interactive Entertainment America.

As a result of the claims several YouTube channels and Twitch streamers saw their accounts being closed or the video being removed.

After the announcement of the new Uncharted game at Sony's PlayStation Experience 2016 press conference, the game's reveal video was not available online. This resulted in gamers uploading the game's gameplay video, only for it to be taken down hours later.

Uploading the gameplay video falls under the DMCA's Fair Use section, which states that the fair use of a copyrighted work for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright.

It is not the first time that Sony has abused YouTube's and Twitch's copyright take-down system. Back in August the company took down accounts of gamers who either talked about the, then, upcoming release of No Man's Sky or showed released gameplay footage.

Over the past few years submitting false DMCA claims on the popular video platform is increasing in popularity. Other video game developers and publishers that engage in the illegal activity include EA Games, EA Dice and even Take-Two Interactive back when Rockstar Games launched Grand Theft Auto V.

Sony did not respond to requests for comments.
