Arenanet has just released the highly anticipated April update for Guildwars 2 bringing new features, content, rewards and bugfixes. Noteworthy changes in the April update include changes to the game's World versus World gamemode introducing reward tracks, stability changes and skill balance changes that shake up the state of the so-called "metagame".
The introduction of a reward track in the game's World versus World gamemode is particularly surprising, developers of the game have long considered the rewards for this gamemode to be enough incentive to play. Together with stability skill changes the gamemode enjoys a much-needed breath of fresh air. In addition the developer has announced additional rework to the gamemode, starting with live betatesting of changes to server population balance this Friday, April 22nd.
Players who enjoy playing PvE have two new legendary weapons to work towards. In addition all of the maps that were introduced with Heart of Thorns, the game's first expansion, have been reworked to allow players to more easily receive rewards. Other noteworthy PvE changes include changes to the scribing, making it cheaper and easier for players to utilize the crafting profession.
On the PvP front many of the existing maps have also been reworked. For example, the laser event on the map Skyhammer has been removed and orb timers on the Spirit Watch map have been tweaked. The release of the patch also marks the ending of the second PvP season. In seasons players have had the ability to earn special backpack skins that transform depending on the division the player plays in.
This patch also marks the closure of the popular minigame Super Adventure Box, scheduled to return again next year on April 1st. The quarterly update is available now by simply starting your game and waiting for the update process to finish.
