Right on the heels of the retail release of Dark Souls 3 for PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4 last week, Bandai Namco is already announcing 2 additional DLC packages, the first one to come this fall with "season passes" available for discounted prices. The DLC will include additional areas that expand upon the base game’s setting, including bosses, weapons, armor, and storytelling.
That the developer announces DLC packages this soon after the game's worldwide release is not surprising. Similar marketing schemes were used by developers of other high-profile games such as Call of Duty and Destiny, where features were cut out of the retail game to instead release them later as downloadable content.
Whether that is the case with Dark Souls 3 DLC remains to be seen. The franchise has in the past offered DLC and season passes for its previous title Dark Souls 2, three in fact, all delivering extra locations, bosses, weapons and armor. The season pass is available for €24.99 on Steam and will give access to both DLC packs upon release.
