Software developer Milton Guasti has released a remake of the classic game Metroid 2. The second game in the franchise was first released in 1991.
The first Metroid game released in August of 1986, 30 years ago this week. While Nintendo itself did nothing to commemorate the occasion, software developer Miltion Guasti has released a remake of the popular game Metroid 2.
The remake, which Guasti calls Another Metroid 2 Remake, or AM2R, has been built from the ground up. Unlike the original monochrome game, the remake features color graphics that fit the Metroid franchise. The art style of the game can be compared with Metroid: Zero Mission that released for the Game Boy Advance back in 2004.
Guasti first announced his project in 2008 and has worked on the game ever since. The developer notes because it respects Nintendo's rights over the Metroid franchise, the remake of the game has been released free of charge.
Another Metroid 2 Remake is now available for PC. A linux version of the game is expected to be available at a later date.
